It’s another GOD IS GREAT day!!!! I was a little bit late arriving today because I was on the phone all morning trying to sort out financial/insurance affairs. (Quick note: For those of you married folks that let your spouse handle all of the financial affairs it’s probably good idea to get a quick crash course just in case you find yourself in a situation such as ours.) Anyway, I called the hospital and asked them to let Scott know I’d be about 15 minutes late and the RN seemed anxious/excited to get me there. When I finally arrived at the SICU the front desk saw me and started excitedly waving me in. Once I made it through the entrance the doctor greeted me with the awesome news. He told me Scott is breathing on his own on CPAP!!! I was so excited. I pretty much floated into Scotts room to let him know how proud I was of him. He immediately told me he is petrified and feels sick with worry. The reason Scott is so scared to breath on his own is because he can’t feel himself breathing. His chest is paralyzed so he has no sensation of his chest rising and falling. I spent about five minutes praising him and God and trying to help him realize what a big deal this is. He felt anxious still so I put my ipod in his ears and played some calming music to help him relax.
Shortly after that, I had an opportunity to meet Fr. Art the priest here at the hospital. He was really helpful and kept encouraging Scott to use the power of positive visualization to calm his nerves. He is teaching Scott to imagine that God is breathing for him and pushing each healing breath into Scott. He is encouraging Scott to remember that God is with him and he will pull him through. We said some prayers and then Scott fell asleep. He’s still snoozing as I type.
This is just one more miracle that God is has worked for us. I am so grateful. If Scott can get off the vent he can eat and drink again and for all of you who know Scott you know how important that is to him! This is one more step towards his goal of drinking blue kool-aid!
Thank you for the prayers! Today illustrates their power!
