I am just written in a quick note this afternoon because I really don’t have a whole lot of new information. First of all, Scott had a surgery this morning that placed a retrievable IVC filter that went into his femoral vein and then pushed below the junction of the IVC and the lowest renal vein. The purpose of the surgery is to reduce the risk of Scott having a pulmonary embolism. Since Scott can’t not move his legs he is at an increased risk of developing a blood clot that could potentially travel to his lungs and take his life. Pulmonary embolisms are a risk to quadriplegic. The filter basically catches the clot before it could travel to his lungs. Scott was really nervous about the surgery but after a few days of debating he decided to move forward with the surgery. I’m happy that he did because I feel like it is a little bit of prevention against something that could present a major setback.

Scott did well with the surgery and he also told me he slept well. I’m happy he did because he needs the rest to heal his lungs. He has spent most of the morning sleeping. The nurse said that he’ll probably be sleepy all day from the surgery. I have my ipod on him so that he can just relax and be relieved from some of the hospital sounds.

I also wanted everyone to know that some of Scotts old coworkers at Calphalon are kindly hosting a golf outing to benefit Scott on August 22, 2009 at the South Toledo Golf Course at 1pm. RSVPs need to be in by July 30,2009. The format is “blind draw” 4 person scramble. Cost is $65 which includes golf, cart, food and Scott’s donation. There will also be 50/50 raffle, silent auction, etc. To RSVP or volunteer contact Chrissy Arvin at chrisarvin@yahoo.com

I will post later on today when I have more updates on Scott. Thank you again for the prayers!
