GOD IS GOOD!!!!!I have AMAZING news. Today the respiratory therapist gave Scott another trial to see if he could breath on his own. They put him on CPAP which is a setting on the ventilator that simply gives his lungs a little pressure but the actual breaths would be his own. No one had expectations that Scott would generate his own breath but…..HE DID!!! For about 10-15 minutes. Scott was upset because he said he couldn’t breath. In fact, his best friend Brian is here and Scott looked at him and mouthed “Put the damn ventilator back on!!!” They say this is a completely normal feeling for Scott. His mind is afraid and doesn’t trust that he can do it. We explained that he was feeling short of breath because for the last week his lungs haven’t been having to do the work. We told him it’s like he’s training for a marathon and today is day 1 of the training. The only reason they turned the vent back on is because after a while Scott was insisting to have it turned back on. We’ll exercise his lungs again later today.
In other news, they pulled the tube from his lung because his lung is in “pristine” shape. This is another box we were able to check today. Scott requested to speak to the Dr. to ask some questions. He wanted to know if he will walk again. Dr said in his opinion probably not BUT he also told Scott that he has proved him wrong with other things like breathing on his own today. Scott has a lot to digest so please pray that he has the courage to believe.
I suppose in summary it’s safe to say that although Scott isn’t moving his arms and legs at the moment he is doing well. I think there are so many different definitions of what a defines a miracle. I think so many of us are praying for that ultimate miracle, however, I feel God has worked so many on Scott already and I want to thank Him for that.
