First of all, I would like to take a moment to express to everyone how wonderful it is to read your words of encouragment. It really helps to bring some sunshine into my days. I can’t wait till Scott is a bit more aware so I can read him all your beautiful words.

So the respiratory therapist was unsuccessful when she tried to get Scott to generate a breath on his own today. We can’t get discouraged though because he is still so sedated and it is very early on. He is still in spinal shock and there is a lot of swelling in his spinal cord.

Also, he had procedure done this afternoon in which they went through his trachea to pull some plugs and remove some of organisms out of his lungs that he picked up in the lake water. He is running a fever of 101 but this is all entirely expected. They are running cultures just to make sure that they have the right meds in order to prevent pneumonia.

On a positive note, Scott had his O2 reduced and the pressure setting on the ventilator. The nurse reassurses me that this is GREAT news. We’re going to try again tomorrow to see if Scott can try some breaths on his own. Thank you for the prayers and please keep the prayers going!
