It’s been an eventful week since I last posted some of my x-rays. My wheelchair was finally fixed last Friday, just in time for a visit from a high school buddy, Alex. This was the first time I’ve seen him in over 17 years. That’s half my life when you think about it, yet we picked up as if we’d seen each other last week. He is in the process of moving back from LA and is a yoga instructor looking to set up a studio in Cleveland. He might also be able to help further stretch me. Alex, Lindsey and I ended up hanging out for about five hours drinking wine and catching up with all the events in our lives.
However, the big event of the past week was that I finally had my trache removed. For the first time in 17 months I no longer have a collar around my neck. While there is still some gauze and tape covering the site, everything should heal within the next few days and my neck will finally be liberated from much of the uncomfortable and irritating sensation the trache brought me. I will have a nice scar where the trache used to be, but it’s just another one to add to my collection. The best part though, is from now on it will be much easier to take showers without having to protect my neck with towels. I can finally get the neck scrub I’ve been waiting for. I want to thank the great staff on floor 10B at Metro for looking out for me the past 2 days. Everything went about as well as could be expected. The only downside is that I didn’t get much sleep, due to all the wonderful alarms and bells that fill the halls of a hospital.
It stinks to have to keep coming back to a nursing facility. I have decided to move into an apartment while I look for a lot on which to build a home. Also, the sooner I get out of the nursing facility, the sooner I can get my real wheelchair and be eligible to begin outpatient therapy plus, it will be nice to have more space all to myself. I have a few apartments lined up for final visits. My goal is to be out of the nursing facility in the next 60 days.
I will post more later this week as well as some “trache-less” pictures of myself. Thanks for all the prayers and support. They are greatly appreciated.

Hello Scott,
You and I might have met many years ago. Your mom and I have been friends for 30 plus years so I feel like I have known you since childhood. Your mom is truly one of the great people I have come to know. I know how proud she is of you and how committed she is in helping you move forward in life. She and I have talked about your transition from the NH to an apartment and ultimately your own home. I’ve tried to assist with the apartment and housing issues with people I have come to know over the years. I am confident with support and prayer you will achieve these next steps forward.
I know I will see your mom soon and hear more about you. She truly is a great lady…a champion. Best regards, Terry Ryan

Can’t wait to see you and your new neck! I trust all is well.
I will not be able to come next Tuesday, though, so it’ll have to be on the 21st–sorry about that.
Have a great weekend.

Scott –
You continue to amaze me with all of your progress! Way to go!! But, most of all, I recently heard a speaker named Steve Gilliland who wrote the book ‘Enjoy the Ride’ – check it out when you get a chance – I think you’ll like it. And, while I read it on my trip back from Chicago to Orlando, I kept thinking of you. You’ll understand why after you read it.
Have a great holiday season!
Traci
I am so glad to hear about all the good things happening in your life at this special time of the year !!!
Hi Scott,
I am so happy to hear that your wheelchair is fixed. Also great news about your trach. Must feel wonderful not to have the collar.
I hope that you can find an apartment that meets your needs. You have worked so hard to get to this point so go for it.
As always, in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Cherry
Congrats on the removal of the trache. Slow but sure you are getting back to normal. Not too much available in apartments for wheelchair accessible. What about the one I sent you in Rocky River on the first floor?
Hi Brother,
You look great! You are a daily inspiration to me. I’d like to come and visit you soon.
God Bless,
Kyle and Laurie
How exciting. You are such an inspiration to our family. Cannot wait to share the great news with Jeremy.
Happy for your good news Scott. I think Browns will have a tough game Sunday – I expect them to win, but not easily. Happy about your progress. You continue to be an inspiration. Say hell’o to Helen for me.
Awesome news Scotty! When you get to your new apartment you will have to blast some Bruce Springsteen!
GREAT NEWS – no collar around your neck – HOW AWESOME!!! Onward and upward as my late brother-in-law used to say.
I can’t wait to hear about your new apartment – good for you!!!
Have a SON-filled day on this the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
God Bless You,
(Bobbi’s friend)
Great news, this should help greatly with our neck stretches!
Scott! (Finally “scored” getting inside the comment zone. Here’s hoping the old guy can now send it!)
Am trying to share your site with some Wilcats. And I will get back before you head to your new digs. Spent the complete Thanksgiving time at a family reunion in Georgia, of all places! Some in Clan have moved there.
Just got back in time to head to Parma on a Kairos. You are prayed for, wherever we gather.
Came back here to my room about an hour ago after sitting in on another inspiring Jim Skerl Night Theology class with guys and a parent (many with dads!) Exsuperey’s Little Prince (read it?) was the topic tonite.
Thrilled to hear that you’re sans trachea. Yes! Enjoy those showers!
Love to your mom and dad. Hope to see you sooon.

Great news Scott, Another victory along the way back.
Our family’s Christmas fundraiser on your behalf continues to be a rousing success. Every one asked to forgive a gift or two or three, etc in favor of the proceeds going to you reached over $400 today with more to follow. It is sure a terrific feeling . . . Encourage others to share the spirit within their family’s, circle of friends or at the office
God Bless, The Darch, Wood, Leiter, Woolley Families.
