“Just us kids in the parking lot, out here givin’ it all we got. We don’t want to get old and die, and there ain’t nothing we wouldn’t try.” – James McMurtry

The above song lyric is a nice ode to last Friday night as two great friends, Matt and Mike, and myself headed out to Kent to see James McMurtry perform. I was made aware of his music several months ago by Matt during one of our evening “fire pit chat sessions” and have been a fan ever since. In particular, it’s his lyrics that draw one in. Similar to my man, Springsteen, he is a master storyteller. My opinion is shared by many including, Stephen King, who gave an interview with Entertainment Weekly calling the singer, “…the truest, fiercest songwriter of his generation.”

We arrived early and set up camp in the parking lot of the Portage County Mental Health & Recovery Board, which was attached to the venue. After tailgating for a bit we headed in and were treated to an amazing performance. Finally, we had a chance to hang out with him for a few moments after the show before heading back home.

Friday was followed up with a wonderful Saturday night in which I was able to catch up with Holly who was in town for a few days. She stopped by with a friend of hers and her nephew, Keegan, who spent all night playing with the cats and the monkey. He promised me he would come back and be a cat sitter if I need him.

As great as the weekend was, the week has been a bit up-and-down so far. I’ve been having some shoulder issues that were exasperated while at the gym on Tuesday. Unfortunately, there is only so much weight-bearing I can put my shoulders though and exceeded their limit during the workout. A few things popped out of place that shouldn’t have and gave us all some cause for concern. I’m okay right now, plan to keep working out on the lower body, but really tone things down until I can meet with an orthopedic specialist.

Finally, I just want to make sure that several of you know, I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I am certainly not alone when it comes to facing adversity and am well aware of the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual obstacles that we all encounter. I know many of you are facing some significant challenges right now and want you to know you are in my prayers. And of course, I am so appreciative of your continued prayers!

Stand Strong!

Scott

Don’t know if you saw the Espy awards. When Robin Roberts received the Arthur Ashe courage award, in her acceptance speech she gave a great line,” When Fear comes knocking, Let Faith answer the door” Those are some great words to give you encouragement on your down days. You are in my prayers daily. God bless!

I truly enjoy your updates and your positive outlook. You’re always on my mind and in my prayers. Like today, for instance, I stopped by the “rehab” facility, and realized why I just can’t go there again! You were the reason I ended up there in the first place. Can’t believe that was 2 1/2 years ago! Take care my friend.
