“Duh, WINNING! ”

Regardless of your opinion of Charlie Sheen and all of his crazy antics, there is something simple and powerful about his above quote. When I was in the hospital still recovering in December 2009, Eric, a good friend of mine made the trip over from Paris to visit me. As we were discussing my future and the new life that was in store for me, he gave me some great advice. He told me the road would be tough and challenging and I was facing a whole new kind of ballgame. There would be some big home runs as well as some missed shots. But there is one objective to the game — to win!  He reminded me that I had no choice but to get up every day and just “win!” As I got sucked into the boob tube this past week watching Charlie’s crazy ramblings, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Eric’s visit and the simple objective of winning. As I think about all that the next few months hold in store for me, I can’t help but get excited about everything coming my way and all the hard work I plan to put in to continue to win!

I wish I could tell you I was writing this journal from the confines of my new cozy pad, but I am still waiting for a few things to fall into place. The good news is that all the wheels are in motion and it shouldn’t be too long. And speaking of wheels, my new wheelchair has arrived, and I will be able to take delivery once I leave here. To me, this is a big deal to the fact that the new chair is actually fitted for me. It is a much smaller profile and equipped with all the bells and whistles I will need. Not to mention, it is a nice metallic silver color, unlike the current chair I have which is pieced together with different red and green colored parts resembling an ugly Christmas necktie.

I mentioned in my last post about my meeting with Katie this past Sunday and how much I enjoyed our conversation and time spent together. She is doing an update on me for the Ignatius quarterly magazine which will print in the Spring. However, she is also a writer who keeps a regular blog that reads more like an inner reflection of the events she encounters throughout her days. She was kind enough to mention me in her latest blog. You can check it out at the link below. I would also encourage you to peruse some of her previous posts as well. Very honest writing.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my iphone and
tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My iPad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!

    Hey Scott …

I am so very grateful to know you and to be able to read your blogs. I’m also THANKFUL that you are alive today so that I can wish you a Happy Birthday. Y-O-U are such an inspiration.

I agree with Katie when she stated “I cannot do him justice in writing.” Words just cannot describe you and just how many ways you touch people’s lives.

Can’t wait to see the new wheels! Silver metallic, too?! You’ll definitely be riding in style! 😉

    Happy Birthday, Scott …
