“Take every day and every moment and make something of it. Make something positive.” – Elvis de León

Sometimes I feel that if I kept up with this journal as much as I do with my tan I’d have written a novel by now. Yes, I have been spending most of the summer outside (how can you not), but it hasn’t all been to sunbathe. Summer also tends to be the season for out-of-town visits, especially from those I don’t get to see as often as I’d like.

Brooke (former Calphalon coworker), Greg and their kids were in town a couple weeks ago for a brief stopover. Luckily we still had the chance to catch up for a little. Last time she and Greg visited, they brought me a jar of Southern California beach sand with the reminder that one day I will walk in the sand again. This time her kids gave me a big ol’ mussel shell to remind me to keep working my muscles. Very clever and appreciated! Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Brooke and Greg also gave me a Jacuzzi tub for the property (but more on that at another time)…

A few days later, Bryan came in from Boston for a long weekend. He typically plans his visits around a Browns game, but since my family finally decided to discontinue our season tickets after 52 years, he was able to make it to Cleveland earlier. Our first stop for lunch was at the world-famous Sokolowski’s for some good old-fashioned Polish food. Afterwards it was off to the Horseshoe Casino for most of the day. The rest of the weekend was pretty much a repetitive process of outdoor activities that all involved various forms of eating or drinking. To top it all off, we even managed to get him to the airport on time Sunday night for his flight home.

I headed down to Columbus earlier this week and had the opportunity to visit Alexandria Reese. If you recall, she was the young woman who was a random victim of violence when she was shot in the neck. [Check out her story].

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen her since she was at Metro, so the visit was long overdue. It was brief, due to another commitment I had, but very special to see her and spend some time with her. Although she might kill me for repeating this, she is going to be 31 years old in a few months, and will have no choice but to spend another birthday in a nursing home. Visiting her in the nursing home just further reinforced my commitment in why I want to build The Quad.

Speaking of The Quad, the purpose of my visit to Columbus was to tour the Universal Design Living Laboratory. It’s worth the time to check out the Virtual Tour. While there, I was able to speak with the owners, Rosemarie and Mark, and pick their brains about some of the more essential things that might typically be overlooked when building some type of accessible housing. It will serve as a valuable resource when it comes to building The Quad in the future and (hopefully) other properties.

I found a great blog post by Seth Godin that I wanted to share, but in the interest of wrapping this up, will do so next time. However, I will leave you with a video that was featured in the A2A Alliance newsletter. It’s only 60 seconds long, but offers wisdom for a lifetime.

Finally, please keep my grandfather (mom side) in your prayers. I believe that God is getting ready to call him Home.

Thanks for all the support, truly humbled.

Stand Strong!

Scott

We all know nothing stays the same, good or bad. We deal with it. Scott, you are to be admired for “dealing with it”. I will pray for your grandpa. Hope he isn’t in pain.

hi scott, yeah, well bless his heart (your grandpa) i have just prayed for him. i know the Lord will take great care of him when he go’s home. leadership: the media should be encouraging these youngsters, but instead they only report the very sad and bad happenings going on in the world today. the media themselves should think about promoting positive leadership. we are all leaders and should remember we are being watched by the youngsters. all of the sadness and terrible things happening are a cry for help and only when right minded adults continue to act in a manner of love with a great amount of self control and concern will the youngsters see and follow. we have very little positive leadership today. i could go on about this for days, But Scott your doing a wonderfull thing in all you do and thats a great roll model. God Bless

Scott, I don’t know how you do it but every single time I have those moments of wishing something was different or wanting something more a Scott Fedor story hits my email and no matter what I’m doing I stop to read it. And every single time I am reminded through your words how blessed I am to know you. All your work on the Quad project sounds amazing Scott and I’m sure you hear all the time how God had these plans for you all along. I love you Scott Fedor. Don’t ever stop your posts – so many people draw strength from them!
