“I don’t want another drink, I only want that last one again.” – James McMurtry

This past Friday was the annual James McMurtry pilgrimage (i.e. the same group of us got together and headed out to hear him perform). In the past, we’ve had to travel a bit to where he was playing. However, James was kind enough to come all the way into downtown Cleveland this time, making for a much easier trek.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you are familiar with my thoughts on McMurtry. Once again, as expected, he didn’t disappoint. In my opinion, this was his best performance yet.

The countdown is officially on for moving to the new house. My lease is up at the end of the month, and my current apartment is already rented. So even if I wasn’t ready to move, I’d have no choice.

I’ve begun the process of packing things up. As is probably the case with many people, you tend to go through everything when you start to pack, usually looking for stuff you can throw out. As I’ve been rummaging through all of the stuff that has collected these past several years I’ve come across lots of mementos of my life before the accident.

A few days ago, I found an envelope which housed all of the contents I used to carry in my wallet. Things like pictures, quotes, and hand written notes to myself, conjured up a flurry of memories.

As I’ve done thousands of time in the past, I read through each one again, pausing to absorb its intended meaning. At some point in my life when I chose to write various words down, or copy a quote I liked, it was done with the intention of it serving as a reminder for how I wanted to live.

Regardless of what particular situation I may have been in at the time, or what I felt those words might apply to, they were written down to serve as a reminder.

A reminder to take action.

We all have little reminders in our life that at times we may have forgotten. Whether you’ve written something down, or tried to make a mental note of something, those reminders at one point were relevant and important to you. I’m willing to bet most of them still are.

We just need to remember to remind ourselves.

So make it a point to “look through your wallet” and act on what you once promised yourself you would do.

Time moves so fast, and sometimes we all need a little reminder to keep us moving towards what it is we need to do.

Wallet stuff

Speaking of time moving fast, Zero recently reached the 6 month mark. Amazing to see how much he’s grown, although, he’s still just as much, if not more, of an energetic puppy. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Ms. Melanie is still keeping all of us entertained with her crazy antics.

6 months

Thank you for the continued prayers and support, which always reminds me of how blessed I am!

Stand Strong!

Scott

After our last visit with you; Ruth and I drove past what was then the “home site”. It sure has gone up in a hurry. Congratulations on Starting this new milestone in your life. Your encouragement about Wallet notes was well done. Unfortunately my wallet has more notes than money
    Best and prayers

Scott, I am excited for you to be in your new home. I knew you could do it! As far as going through “your wallet”, I am going through organizing thousands of pictures. I have 6 albums so far and only up to year 1990! I am so glad I wrote the year on the back of so many pictures. It certainly brings back memories while going through the pictures, and I wonder where the time went. You will have place of honor in one of my albums because you are a special guy.

    Hi Scott,

Best of luck with the MOVE!!! That is awesome the way you’ve made that happen for yourself. I can’t wait to see your new surroundings the next time I plan a visit to Cleveland. Take care, and I’m wishing you a very smooth move (if there is such a thing, right?). BTW, I like the beard, it makes you look kinda bad-ass:) Rock on!
